We hope that everyone is staying well and staying home as New Mexico increases efforts to slow the spread of Covid-19. The hiatus from club activities has been challenging to say the least. As each day passes we think of you, all of the members that we spend time with each day. We look forward to seeing everyone’s familiar faces when the doors reopen. Until then, we have some options for you to stay fit and active!
21 group classes are now offered through the Zoom group class schedule. This temporary way of providing group instruction has allowed us to host more than half of our regular fitness classes. Our wonderful Group Fitness Instructors have been patient and adapted to this change. Classes are fun and exciting once we get through the initial moments of confusion, muted audio, dogs barking, planes flying, etc.
Classes such as Tai Chi, treadmill running, and a high intensity interval training or H.I.I.T. on Sunday have been added to the schedule. Other classes have been revamped and trimmed down for time. The goal is to give members diverse and challenging workouts multiple times per week.
Spending so much time sequestered at home practicing social distancing can lead sedentary lifestyle, overeating, and anxiety. Take a few moments for exercise each day. Something as simple as the following 5 exercises to get your heart rate going.
1. Bodyweight squats, 2 x 12-15
2. Stand on each leg, 2 x 30 seconds, tighten the core!
3. Lean into wall for chest presses, 2 x 12-15
4. High-knee march in place, 2 minutes
5. Forearm plank, 2 minutes
