Say hello to the two colors you can expect to see a lot of next year: Rose Quartz and Serenity. For the first time ever, the Pantone Color Institute chose two shades simultaneously as the Color of the Year.

These two muted pastel shades are being compared to colors typically found in baby nurseries, but Pantone said they chose these two colors because they’re “a harmonious pairing of inviting shades that embody a mindset of tranquility and inner peace.”

“With the whole greater than its individual parts, joined together Serenity and Rose Quartz demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace,” says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

Pantone’s annual Color of the Year forecast is heavily anticipated by the interior design, housewares, graphic design, and fashion industries, and the chosen shades are often incorporated into new product lines and become popular in home staging.

The intention to choose two colors was for them to be paired together. “From a business perspective, it’s two colors, so it’s an opportunity to make extra combinations,” says Ms. Eiseman. “It makes for a perfect combination in the home”

In terms of home decor and staging, Pantone says that Rose Quartz and Serenity will give a living space a feeling of calmness and relaxation. These shades can be used in paint, rugs, upholstery, bedding, and decorative accents in the home. They predict adding Rose Quartz and Serenity colored tableware and home accessories like vases and bowls into kitchen staging will give the space a welcoming and peaceful feeling.
